The Kid is Back

Tinson2 returned last night from his 6-day exchange trip to Wurzberg in Germany. I collected him at school, where all 16 kids burst off the coach still shouting from the noise of the plane and from sheer elation. They were all wearing those Austrian hats like the one here, making them look like a cross between Bruno and the Blues Brothers.

Tinson2 had a terrific time. The school had organised lots of joint trips for them all, but the family of Florian, the guy he’s doing the exchange with, seem to have been exceptional, taking him on trips of their own and taking him for meals where he tried sauerkraut, bratwurst and a white sausage for which the area is especially famous.

They gave him their phone on Sunday night and told him to ring home for Mother’s Day.

These wonderful people will never read this, so will never know how thankful we are for what they did for him.

Florian comes here next month, and I’m hoping we can do as good a job.

Glad Tinson2 is home safe and well. I remember having a German boy and the following year a French girl. I look on the first visit as successful but the latter was at a bad time. I was nursing Jack 24/7 and was only asked on the night the students arrived to take the girl in as she had nowhere else to go. Well, I couldn’t say no. Enough said.

You could send them a card, Tinman, for god’s sake!
